Ganesh Puja Vidhi: Complete Step-by-Step Guide
Lord Ganesha is the first deity worshipped in Hindu tradition. Before any auspicious occasion, Ganesh puja is performed to remove obstacles and invite blessings.
🪔 Materials Required (Puja Samagri)
- Ganesh idol or image
- Red flowers (hibiscus preferred)
- Durva grass (दूर्वा)
- Modak or laddoo (prasad)
- Roli, kumkum, haldi
- Incense sticks (agarbatti)
- Diya and oil/ghee
- Fresh water in a kalash
- Red cloth
📿 Step-by-Step Ganesh Puja Vidhi
Step 1 — Preparation (Shuddhi) Clean the puja place. Sprinkle Ganga jal. Sit facing East. Place Ganesh idol on red cloth.
Step 2 — Sankalp (Intention) Take water in right hand and say:
"Om Gan Ganapataye Namah — I begin this puja for blessings and removal of obstacles"
Step 3 — Avahan (Invocation)
🙏 "Vakratunda Mahakaya, Suryakoti Samaprabha Nirvighnam Kuru Me Deva, Sarva Karyeshu Sarvada"
Step 4 — Panchamrit Snan Bathe the idol with:
- Milk (दूध)
- Curd (दही)
- Honey (शहद)
- Sugar (चीनी)
- Ghee (घी)
Then clean with water.
Step 5 — Shringar (Decoration) Apply roli/kumkum. Offer red flowers. Place durva grass in sets of 3. Apply haldi.
Step 6 — Dhoop & Deep Light incense sticks. Light diya with ghee. Wave it in circular motion (aarti).
Step 7 — Naivedya (Offering) Offer modak or laddoo. Offer water. Offer coconut.
Step 8 — Ganesh Aarti Sing or read Ganesh Aarti:
"Jai Ganesh Jai Ganesh Jai Ganesh Deva Mata Jaki Parvati, Pita Mahadeva"
Step 9 — Pradakshina & Dandavat Circumambulate the idol 3 times clockwise. Bow down and offer your prayers.
Step 10 — Prasad Distribution Distribute modak/laddoo as prasad to family members. 🙏
